Newark – Death of Mrs. Rogers –
Helen Speakman Rogers, wife of the Rev. Warren Lincoln Rogers, rector of St. John’s Church, Jersey City, died at York Harbor Maine, Saturday evening, September 6, 1919. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers had spent several weeks of their vacation at that resort and were about to return home when Mrs. Rogers was taken suddenly ill. The case was diagnosed as appendicitis and she was removed to the York Hospital, where an operation immediately followed.
Mrs. Rogers was born in Steelton, Pennsylvania, August 13, 1878. She was a graduate with Phi Beta Kappa rank of the University of Michigan where she became acquainted with Mr. Rogers. In the interval between graduation and her marriage, June 22, 1911, at Detroit, by Bishop Williams, she was professor of history at the State Normal College at West Chester, Pennsylvania.
Funeral services were held in St. John’s Church, Jersey City, Wednesday, September 10th. Bishp Stearly officiated, assisted by the Rev. Leighton H. Nugent, assistant minister at St. John’s and the Rev. Gabriel Farrell, an intimate friend. Interment was at New York Bay Cemetery in Jersey City.
