James was an honest hard working man who held the old values ,You do not harm others ,you do not use others .you pay your own way in life. If he could not pay for it then he did not need it. He taught me how to use and care for horses and to be able to feed myself from what I grow,
James and Maggie Chandler owned their own place at Nelsons Va . before world war II , When their daughter married Walter Overby and moved to Dundas , Va.;they sold and bought their farm at Dundas Va. It was just up the road from Walter Overbys place. Never drove a car or tractor in his life . Had a work horse and did everything else by hand . Like so many his age James was hard working and put family first. Maggie his wife said that he was a good shine maker but he quit when Zelma [his daughter ]was born. James and Maggie were married 17 Nov 1921 in mecklenburg county Va
