Maggie Hedgepeth Chandler was a very hard working country woman. From early in the morning when milking cows ,tending to the farm and having a very large garden. As all country people around the fifties she canned her own food ,made the best sugarcured hickory smoked hams and sides of bacon.Earning extra money from selling eggs and making wonderful country butter with a hand churn . They always had a large flock of chickens and a number of hogs for killing in autumn . They paid cash for their farm as they had sold their farm at Nelson , va . I grew up helping her and her husband James tend the crops and to be self sufficient in life. Buy what you can pay for ,respect people and love God. They did not walk around with a bible in their hands THEY LIVED THE TEACHINGS OF THE GOOD BOOK IN EVERYPART OF THEIR LIFE' Married for fifty five years
Maggie Hedgepeth Chandler was very lucky to be able to spend a number of years living with her grandmother Mary Frances Wilkinson Wilkins in the same house. I was also happy to have grown up to my early teens with my great grand parents William Ernest and Minne Mark Hedgepeth . Beautiful people.
