--Jeanette was the youngest daughter of Major Arthur Gifford Lake and the former Anna Delany. The Lake family has a long history on Staten Island.
--Jeanette married William Frank "Willis" Meschenmoser on July 2, 1900, at Richmond Chapel, St. Patrick's Church at Richmond (Staten Island), New York.
--Jeanette had one daughter, Jeanette Alberta Meschenmoser (1901-1957).
--Jeanette lost her husband, Willis, in 1926 when he died on a Caribbean cruise steamship on which she was with him. The ship was "Columbus," which was docked in Havana, Cuba.
--Jeanette's unmarried sister, Mary-Gifford Lake, who died in 1936, lived with her following Willis's death, at least by 1930. In 1930 and in 1940, her cousin, Louise Delany, was also living with her.
--Jeanette lost her daughter, Alberta, in 1957 to death. Her son-in-law, Dr. H. Dean Smith, Sr., died in 1963.
--Jeanette died in 1966 at age 87. The following are people by whom I know her to be survived. She was survived by three grandchildren, Hamilton D. Smith, Jr., Mrs. Mary-Gifford Bruley, and Willis T. Smith; by great-grandchildren; and by at least one sister-in-law, Mrs. Bertha E. Stewart, of Charlotte, NC.
