STAR - Von Lemond Allen, 90, died Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at FirstHealth Hospice House.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at Southside Baptist Church in Biscoe. Burial will follow at Ether United Methodist Church cemetery.

Von was born Aug. 26, 1926, in Allreds, N.C. He was a son of the late Chesley Stanback and Ethel Deaton Allen.

He was a graduate of Star High School, Class of 1943. Von served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, where he was involved in the invasion of Guam. Von began his career as an auto mechanic in 1945. He established Allen Motor Company Inc. in 1948, which began as a salvage yard. In the 1960s, he was also owner and operator of Allen Motor Company, Inc. in Biscoe, which was a Chrysler/Plymouth dealership. Von was a licensed real estate broker. In 1960, he established one of the first mobile home dealerships in the state of North Carolina, known as A/A Inc. The dealership later became Home City, LTD and Carolina Modular Homes, Inc. In 1970, Von did the first VA finance deal on mobile homes in North Carolina.

He had a passion for aviation and obtained his pilot license in 1974. He established Allen Aviation Inc., where he sold airplanes and operated the Montgomery County Airport for 23 years. In 1981, he received his aircraft mechanic’s license. Von was active in the community where he retired as a volunteer fireman with the Star Fire Department and was a 32nd degree mason. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. He tried to lead and bring everyone that he could to the Lord. He was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Von never met a stranger and helped everyone in need. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 67 years, Savannah “Chunk” Freeman Allen of the home; sons, Dennis Gray Allen and wife Jane of Raleigh, Dr. Randy L. Allen and wife Lisa of Apex and Mike L. Allen and wife Marva of Star; brother, June Allen of Mt. Gilead; sister, Melba Blue of Troy; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Doris Floyd and Treva Freeman.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
