Joseph Wood Chadwick, 80, peacefully passed away Monday, March 6, 2017 at his home in Deer Park, TX.
Mr. Chadwick leaves behind his beloved wife, Betty (Tanner) Chadwick after 40 amazing years of marriage. He was a caring father to eight children, eight grandchildren, and many lifelong friends.
Joe was born August 31, 1936 in Abbeville, LA. He served 11 years in the United States Air Force as a Cytological Communications Specialist. Upon an honorable discharged from the military, he settled down in Deer Park, TX where he became a professional truck driver for Linde/Praxair. Through his 43-year career, Joe compiled more than two million miles of driving without ever being involved in an accident nor receiving a single violation. Subsequently, he twice received the 'Million Mile Club' honors by the National Safety Council.
Upon retirement, Joe became an avid radio-controlled airplane builder and flyer. He shared his hobby with friends as a member of the Bayport Aero and Texas City RC clubs. His mastery of woodcrafts and engineering skills was admired by the RC community. Along with his friendly attitude, he quickly became a mentor for all. He hand-built 30 planes from scratch and logged over 200 hours of flight time while at the same time passing his knowledge and experience to others.
Joe was a determined young man, then a loving husband, and finally a devoted grandfather. He was unmatched as a jack-of-all-trades; his experiences were vast and skills immense. He will be sorely missed and forever loved!
Joseph W. Chadwick was laid to rest on March 13, 2017 at Grand View Memorial Park amongst loved ones.
