Anne Lewis Kennedy, age 91, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 16, 2017.

Born on July 2, 1925 in Statesville, NC, her family moved to Lakeland, Florida shortly thereafter. Anne graduated from Lakeland High School in 1942. She studied at Florida State University and the University of California at Los Angeles, before completing her studies at Birmingham Southern College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. During her tenure at Birmingham Southern, Anne was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, where she served as vice-president. She also sang in the college choir, and participated in numerous special choral groups. In addition, Anne was a member of the MU Alpha music fraternity, where she served as president. Following graduation, she taught a variety of music courses at Birmingham Southern and assisted the director of music at the college. Anne met the love of her life at a party at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Tampa, Florida, where she met D. James Kennedy, who preceded her in death in 2007. Jim and Anne were married in August of 1956. In 1959, they moved to Fort Lauderdale to establish the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church where they served faithfully for more than 48 years. Anne faithfully sang in the chancel choir, played in several handbell choirs, participated on various committees, and took part in the church's weekly lay evangelism training ministry. Known to most as the "First Lady" of Coral Ridge, Anne worked diligently alongside her husband as he shepherded a rapidly-growing church. Her passion was to share the good news of Jesus Christ - that heaven is a free gift, not earned by our own good works, but by trusting in Jesus Christ and the forgiveness of sins offered to us through His grace. She was named Homemaker of the Year in 2004 by Phyllis Schlafly's Eagle Forum.

She is survived by her daughter of Delray Beach, Florida; her younger sister of Cocoa Beach, Florida; nephew of Tucker, Georgia; nephew of Hollywood, FL; her older sister of St. Petersburg, FL; her niece of Orlando, FL; her nephew of Redwood City, California; and nephew of Potomac, Maryland.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Grand Narthex of the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, 5555 N. Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, D. James Kennedy Center for Christian Statesmanship, D. James Kennedy Ministries, Evangelism Explosion International or Westminster Academy.
