16 Feb 2007: Frank Ceresini Sr., longtime city firefighter who served two stints as chief, died Tuesday at the age of 90. Ceresini started his firefighting career as a volunteer for the Chemical Fire Co. in 1942, according to his son, Frank Ceresini Jr. "He was going to meetings until he couldn't go anymore, and then someone would pick him up and take him to the meetings," the younger Ceresini said yesterday. Ceresini served as chief twice—once in the 1960s and once in the 1980s. He was chief at the time of the fire at the San Giorgio pasta factory on Guilford Street in 1960, one of the biggest blazes in the history of the city, his son said. The elder Ceresini worked as a miner at the Cornwall ore mine until it closed in 1972. "He worked there from the time he was a kid on up," his son said. Ceresini was also involved in several other organizations. He was president of Chemical Fire Co. for about 25 years, a member of the Lebanon County Firefighters Association, president of the Pennsylvania Trappers Association, and involved with St. Mary's Church in Lebanon. Ceresini was also judge of elections when they were held at the old Chemical Fire Co. on Walnut Street. [Lebanon Daily News]
