Michael Sherwood Abel, 37, of Mendota died at 2 p.m. May 21, 2017, in a tragic car accident in Troy Grove Township.
A memorial service will be at a later date.
Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota is handling arrangements.
Michael was born May 12, 1980, in Peru to Steve and Kim (Turnbull) Abel.
He graduated from Mendota High School in 1998.
Mike deeply loved his daughter Gianna, who he called the love of his life, and his fiancée a wonderful, loving and supportive partner in life.
Mike was deeply connected to a great group of friends and his goddaughters Eliza and Jaz and his godson Quentin.
He is survived by his daughter Gianna Abel; fiancée, Kilian Keene; parents, Kim and Steve; sister, Stephanie; maternal grandparents Bill and Janet Turnbull and Ruby Turnbull; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Maxine and Sherwood Abel and his amazing Aunt Helen.
Memorials may be directed to Kim and Steve Abel for the establishment of his daughter’s education fund.

A 37-year-old Mendota man died at the scene of a crash near Troy Grove Sunday afternoon.
According to preliminary reports, at about 2 p.m. Sunday, a pickup driven by Michael Abel was northbound on East Fourth Road about a mile north of Troy Grove when for an unknown reason it entered the east ditch, struck a culvert and tree and rolled over several times, according to La Salle County Sheriff’s Office.
Abel was pronounced dead at the scene, which was near 3776 East Fourth Road (County Highway 13) in Troy Grove Township, according to the county report.
The accident is under investigation by the La Salle County sheriff’s and coroner’s offices.
