s/o Theodore & Elizabeth Snoeberger of Morrison's Cove, Bedford Co., PA, and great-grandson of Johannes Schneeberger who immigrated from Switzerland in 1751 and established a new home he called Snow Hill, PA because of its similarity to his former home in Switzerland (in the Morrison's Cove area); Morrison's Cove became home to many Snoebergers, Zooks, and Replogles among others. According to Jesse Zook, the Snoeberger farm was passed on to Jacob's son Aaron, and then later split up into five smaller farms run by Aaron's sons.

John Eshelman Snoeberger was the first husband of Mary Shively Zook, and they had 8 children: John, Catherine, Aaron, Levi, Isaac, David D., Eliza Jane, and Elizabeth. After his death, Mary married a Jacob Zook and moved to Baldwin, Jackson Co., Iowa, where both of them are buried in the Pence Cemetery.
