Sophia "Bunny" Bodnar, 94, formerly of Onondaga Hill, passed away Monday in Massachusetts. Bunny was born in Elkhorn, West Virginia in 1920. During WWII, she went to Washington D.C. working as a "government girl" for a federal agency. She married her high school sweetheart, John Bodnar, in 1942 and they moved to Syracuse shortly after. They were married for 70 years, until his death in 2012. Bunny worked as a secretary in the Volunteer Office of the Syracuse Veteran`s Administration Medical Center for 25 years. She was a communicant of SS. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in Syracuse and active in the church's "R" Club and many church activities. Bunny loved being physically active and enjoyed playing tennis and golf. She was a devoted homemaker, loved flower gardening and cared deeply about the happiness of her family, making every event special. She cherished time with her grandchildren, took meticulous care of everything she owned and appreciated beautiful things.
Surviving are her daughters, Terry (Eric) Goplerud of Reston, VA and Elizabeth Jan (Jon) Goplerud of Lexington, MA; grandchildren, Andrea (Robert Hardy) Goplerud of Falls Church, VA, Keith Goplerud and Elise Goplerud, both of Lexington, MA, and Kara Goplerud of Portland, OR; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be Sunday, September 28 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Panikhida service will be at 4:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, September 29 at 10 a.m. in SS. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church. Sophia will be laid to rest in St. Michael's Russian Orthodox Cemetery, East Syracuse.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to SS. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in support of their handicap access project, 401 Hamilton St., Syracuse, NY 13204.
