BUTLER: Robert L. "Bob" Crill, 78, of Butler passed away at home, Monday May 22, 2017 following a courageous battle with cancer.

The son of Robert N. and Helen (Thatcher) Crill, Bob was born December 17, 1938 in Cleveland. Raised in Brinkhaven, Ohio Bob has always loved the outdoors. He attended Butler High School and joined the Marine Corps in 1957. He was honorably discharged in 1960.

Bob worked for Columbia Gas as a transmission mechanic. He retired in 1996 after working 36 years.

He has always loved motorcycles and in his younger years raced on local short tracks in Greenwich, Mansfield and other tracks across Ohio.

For decades Bob's family and friends enjoyed vacationing at the family cabin in Pennsylvania. He loved the quiet, stillness of the woods, as well as the freedom to explore new territory with his family.

Bob had a soft spot for animals both domestic and wild. It wouldn't be unusual for Bob to bring home a raccoon, squirrel, or even baby skunks! Bob was always seen with his two German Shepherds-Rene and Princess. Walking along his side or riding in his truck, they were always together.

Bob enjoyed golfing and for many years played in a league at Pleasant Hill Golf Course. He was a member of the Bellville Masonic Lodge #376.

Bob always worked at being physically fit and enjoyed watching local sporting events in the Clear Fork Valley. He supported his children, grandchildren, and coached many other kids in little league baseball. Bob loved his years of retirement. He was a kind, caring man with a contagious smile who never knew a stranger. If anyone ever asked for a favor of Bob, he always said yes and was more than willing to offer a helping hand.

Bob is survived by his children Dave & Lori Crill of Ocala, Florida, Annette Jones of Ontario, Doug Crill of Butler and Kim & Jim Jackson of Bellville; grandchildren Meghan & Josh Mader of Ocala, Florida, USMC Cpl Josh Crill of Ocala, Florida, Lana Jones and her husband Chuck Polette of Chicago, IL, Skyler and Casey Jones of Ontario, Camryn Crill of Butler, Savanah and Jay Jackson of Bellville; brother Joe & Susan Crill of Bellville and sister Carolyn & Tom Ellis of Bellville; nieces, nephews, and extended family; special friend Shirley Parker of Lexington and close friend George Smith of Mansfield.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his lifelong friend Gary Hall.

The family will receive friends Friday, May 26, 2017 from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home, conducted by Pastor Ken Kinley. Military honors performed by the American Legion Post #535 will follow on the funeral home grounds.

Contributions in his memory to Ohio Health Hospice or to Pilot Dogs Inc. (Guide dogs for the blind) may be made at the funeral home.
