Joyce Webber Scott was born July 6, 1927 into the loving family of Joseph and Lillian Webber in Knoxville, Tennessee. Joyce and her siblings Eugene Webber, Virginia Webber Gantt, and Doris Webber McLemore enjoyed life on the farm which instilled in them a special love of gardening and the outdoors. Joyce was a good student who graduated as Salutatorian of the Central High School class of 1945, and continued at the University of Tennessee where she was a member of the hiking club. She met and married her husband of 61 years, James C. Scott, Sr. and raised three children, James C. Scott, Jr. (Jeanne), Robert R. Scott (Helen), and Catherine Scott Jones (Jeff) with the help and guidance of the Central Baptist Church of Bearden. When her children left for school so did Joyce, teaching at the Thackston School for many years. Joyce was also an excellent cook, priding herself on making every meal special. Her love of gardening and the outdoors led to an extensive backyard wildflower garden which she added to every year. After the passing of her husband and losing the ability to live independently, she donated her wildflower garden to the Indian Mound section of Sequoyah Park where it flourishes today. Joyce then moved to the Elmcroft Assisted Living Center, later transferring to the Ben Atchley State Veterans' home and receiving excellent care at both facilities. She passed away peacefully at the Ben Atchley Veterans' Home surrounded by family, friends, and clergy.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and siblings. She is survived by her three children, five grandchildren (James C. Scott, III, Samuel A. Scott, Brian C. Scott, Elizabeth A. Jones, and Rachel C. Jones) and many nieces and nephews. Friends and family please come on Tuesday, May 30th at 2:00 pm to the Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, in the glass rotunda, 5901 Lyons View Pike, for a graveside service with Dr. Wade Bibb officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church of Bearden, 6300 Deane Hill, Knoxville, TN 37919. Arrangements by Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
