Wayne E. Tryon, 86, of Marysville, KS, died May 26, 2017 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville.

Visitation was Friday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 3 at the First Christian Church in Marysville. Rev. Jerry Zanker officiated. Gail Gilkerson played the organ while Wayne Kruse sang. Music included “In the Garden”, “Life’s Railway to Heaven”, “The Old Rugged Cross”, and “Ole Buttermilk Sky”.

The honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren, Jacob Baker, Joshua Baker, Maggi Kennedy, Brandi Studer, Emili Stoll, David Byers, Ben Byers, Anna Suther, Paul Byers, Tim Jones, Andy Ring, Christopher Jones, Dan Ring, and Jordan Ring.

Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery.

Wayne was born August 18, 1930, at Alexandria, NE, to LeRoy David and Ida Mae “Sally” (Pitts) Tryon. In 1947, he graduated from Marysville High School. On the night of his death he was attending his 70th year class reunion.

He worked through high school at Paul Elliot's Grocery Store to buy his first car. Two days after his 18th birthday, he began working as a Fireman shoveling coal on steam locomotives for the Union Pacific Railroad. He became a locomotive engineer and retired at the age of 62 as a lifelong employee of the U.P. Railroad.

On August 20, 1950, he married Mary Suzan “Sue” Runyon at Marysville. They had four daughters. She preceded him in death on April 12, 2009. He later married Nora Bergen on August 23, 2011.

Wayne was an active member of the First Christian Church, Union Pacific Old Timers, UP Employees Club and N.A.R.V.R.E. Over the years he enjoyed roller skating, square dancing, traveling and camping. After retirement Wayne and Sue enjoyed winters in Arizona.

Survivors include his daughters, T.J. Baker (Jon McCoy), Marysville, Victoria (Rick) Cagan, Lawrence, KS, Kate (David) Byers, Beattie, KS, and Louie (Roger) Ring, Marysville; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and Nora's four daughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sue; three brothers, LeRoy Tryon, Ronald Tryon, and Robert Tryon; grandson, Kevin Byers; and Nora Bergen Tryon.

Wayne recently donated land in support of the Blue River Rail Trail. Memorial funds have been established for the BRRT and Marysville First Christian Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
