Aberdeen - The funeral service for Gladys R. Williams, 96, of Aberdeen and formerly of Ipswich, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at Ipswich United Church of Christ. Rev. Dave Biebighauser and Rev. Dennis Gellhaus will lead the worship. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Thursday at Gramm Funeral Home in Ipswich.

Gladys was born Dec. 22, 1910, to Ray and Elta (Bartlett) Mackey in Odebolt, Iowa. The family moved to Alberta, Canada, when she was a small child. They later moved to Ipswich, where she attended school and was a pianist for silent movies at the theater.

She married Mybra "Mike" Williams at Ipswich on Dec. 22, 1926. Four children were born to this marriage. After her family was raised, she worked part-time at several local businesses, including Archer Meat Market, Crissman Drug Store and Engler Hardware. Together, she and Mike celebrated 75 years of marriage. Mike died in October 2002. Gladys moved to Gellhaus Carehaus II in Aberdeen on Jan. 1, 2003. She remained there until October 2006 when, following a broken hip and surgery, she moved to ManorCare. Gladys died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services in Aberdeen. She is remembered by her family as an excellent seamstress and housekeeper. She prided herself on her organizational ability and would document everything. Gladys was always a "lady" who made sure that everything was proper.

Survivors include her children: Beverly (Bob) Wendt and Maris (Connie) Williams, all of Aberdeen; son-in-law, Gordon Petersen of Cresbard; sister, Doris Flesher of Venice, Fla.; sister-in-law, Gladys Mackey of Buffalo Lake, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son, daughter, Verna Lea Petersen, one great-granddaughter, one brother and four sisters.

Casket bearers will be Tim Theunissen, Mike Petersen, Jerry Braun and Jerry Brooks. David Williams will serve as the usher. Corinne Jameson will play the organ while Bob Pond will sing a solo.
