She married Grover Cleveland Jenkins on November 8, 1938, who preceded her in death on December 4, 1999. She is also preceded in death by her daughter, Georgia Faye Pemberton; granddaughters, Rhonda Ferguson and Nina Mannering; and great granddaughter, Taylor Brooke Mannering.
She is survived by her children, Marie (Herb) Shear, of Piketon, Janet (Paul) Hall, of Jackson, Connie Ryan, of Oak Hill, Glenna Jenkins, of Oak Hill, Harold (Suzanne) Jenkins, of Oak Hill, Pam Mastalin, of Oak Hill and Judy (Ed) Mannering, of Lucasville. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.
Bessie loved her children, grandchildren and spending time with her family. She never forgot her roots and her family home in Twin Lick Kentucky, where she frequently visited. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and playing tricks on others. She was funny, witty and full of compassion. She fed strangers when they were hungry and helped anyone in need. She knew Jesus Christ as her savior and all who knew her, lover her. She will be greatly missed by her family.
Friends may call Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. A funeral will follow at 1:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Ray Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Cemetery.
