ALFRED EMMANUEL "AL" SMITH
UNION, SC
Mr. Alfred Emmanuel "Al" Smith, age 88, of 207 Spruce St., widower of Elizabeth Morris "Lib" Smith, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Smith was born in Union, SC April 14, 1929 a son of the late Russell Sam Smith and Alma Lawson Smith. He was a graduate of Union High School, Wofford College where he received a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Business, and Watch Repair School in Spencer, NC. Mr. Smith and his wife, Lib, owned and operated Smith's Jewelry Store on Main Street. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and the South Carolina National Guard—Union Unit having served for 20 years. Mr. Smith was a proud member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon, Youth Leader, and Sunday School Teacher. He loved his church community and family dearly.
Surviving are, one daughter, Beth Smith Justice and husband Todd of Buffalo; two sons, Thomas Russell Smith and Joe R. Smith both of Union; two brothers, Everette Smith of Durham, NC and Rod Smith of Prosperity, SC; a special friend, William Howell of Sumter, SC; two granddaughters, Nikki S. Robinson and husband Trad and Katy Beth Seaburg and husband Wesley; four grandsons, Bryan Robinson and wife Audrey, Brett Robinson and wife Tiffany, Rusty Smith, and Joseph Smith; two step-granddaughters, Ashley J. Reese and husband Chris and Amber Justice; one great-granddaughter, Selah Kate Robinson; seven grandsons, Westley, Jacob, Maddox, Thomas, and Martin Robinson and Weston and Walker Seaburg.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Mike Moody and Rev. Dr. Tommy Vaughn. Burial with full Military Honors will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Bryan Robinson, Brett Robinson, Trad Robinson, Rusty Smith, Wesley Seaburg, and Joseph Smith. The Fellowship Sunday School Class of Tabernacle Baptist Church are asked to sit in a group.
Visitation will be held 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday evening at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, Debt Retirement Fund, 915 S. Pinckney St., Union, SC 29379.
