Margaret Mae Willfong Carpenter was born in Shannon, Illinois, on April 15, 1885. At the age of five, she moved with her parents and family to the Alta community where she resided until the time of her passing. She was an Alta alumna, graduating together with her sister, Rose, in the class of 1904.

On March 18, 1909 Margaret was united in marriage to Frank L. Carpenter. To this union was born six children: Harold of Ottertail, Minnesota, Bernice (Mrs. Eugene Anderson) of Alta; Carol of Alta, Donald of Aurelia, Lyle of Storm Lake and a son who passed away in infancy.

Mrs. Carpenter's first interest was her family and home. She was a life long member of the Methodist church.

Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren, five ggreat grandchildrn, a sister, Mrs. Almus Buckingham and other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 30 from the First Methodist church in Alta with Rev. E.R. Peterson, officiating. Interment was in the Woodlawn cemetery under the direcction of the Jones Funeral Home.
