Betty Jo (Holbrook) Bookout, a long time resident of Corpus Christi, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 28th, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas due to complications from a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.

She was born on September 26, 1928 in Henrietta, Oklahoma. Her family moved to Corpus Christi in 1944 when she was 16 years old. Betty graduated from Corpus Christi High School. A few years after she graduated, she met the love of her life, James Herman Bookout. They were married in Corpus Christi in 1952.

Betty was a community leader and businesswoman in Corpus Christi for several decades. She owned Unique Temporary Services along with numerous other small business ventures. She was involved with the Corpus Chamber of Commerce, Republic Women of Texas, and was a founding member of Yorktown Baptist Church. She volunteered her time with many local charities and organizations, of which she was passionate about. She was a warrior for Christ and a perfect example to her family of how to live a Christian life, putting God first in everything she did.

In addition to her immediate family she had a multitude of extended family including several generations of nieces, nephews and cousins whom she dearly loved.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years James Herman Bookout of Corpus Christi, along with all her sisters. Lola Bearden of Corpus Christi, Ethel Robbins of Corpus Christi, Mallie Collins of Pasadena, Texas, Clara Curtis of Corpus Christi, Irene Owen of Ardmore, Oklahoma and Nancy Lofton of Houston.

She loved her family and friends unconditionally and was always there to love, encourage and lift up everyone. She always saw the good in people and always made people feel like they were important and had value. She was the best wife, mom, grandmother, and friend that anyone could ever have. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.

A Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel.
