Ulysses “Duck” Grant Ballinger Jr., 81, of New Market, went to be with his Lord on June 3, 2017.

Grant was a avid bluegrass singer, attending Rocky Branch and Townsend pick-ins. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 - 1959. He was a member of Nances Grove Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Moore; parents, Ulysses and Louise Ballinger; infant siblings, Julia and Oliver; brothers, Alvin, Riley and Clifford; sisters, Edna and Eula.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Darlene; daughters, Stacy Ballinger and Shawn (Alex) Lance; special granddaughter, Danielle Ledbetter; grandson, Freddie Lance; granddaughter, Maria Lance; sisters, Josephine Minton and Agnes Trotter; daughter by his first marriage, Shelley (Jeff) Anderson; grandsons, Johnny, Matthew, Michael (Lisa); 3 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Internment 9:30 am Friday in TN State Veterans Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW #5266 and U.S. Navy. Rev. John “Sonny” Fultz officiating.
