Mary Louise "Lou" Abernathy age 86 of Connersville passed away Friday August 17, 2012 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born July 9, 1926 in Jennings Township in Fayette County the daughter of the late Carl and Mildred Rader Philabaum.
She is a 1944 graduate of Alquina High School.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years Albert M. Abernathy to whom she was married February 23, 1946 in Pershing, IN.
She is a member of Peace Lutheran Church and for many years had been a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Lou had lived many years in Fayette County before moving to Bloomington for 25 years. She and Albert enjoyed 8 wonderful years of retirement in Bradenton, Florida before returning to Connersville in 2000.
While living in Connersville during the early years Lou was employed for several years with Al Weiler Insurance agency. While living in Bloomington she was employed with the May Agency, eventually becoming an insurance agent until her retirement.
She loved being a homemaker and taking care of others, often through cooking and baking.
In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter and son in law, Tina & Joe Hecht, Cumming, GA; a son and daughter in law, Radley & Bonnie Abernathy, Connersville; 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a sister Margaret Rogers.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at the Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. Norman Dew and Rev. William Peterson officiating.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Lyonsville.
