AYER, Mass. — Loretta Ann (Paige) Coyle, 80, of Ayer, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully and gracefully with her family at her side in the early morning hours of May 31, 2017.

She was born in Boston, Massachusetts, to Mary (Carey) and Edward Paige. Loretta, known to most as “Retsy” lived a full and happy life.

After graduating from Mission High School in Boston, she married her high school sweetheart “Frannie” on Dec. 31, 1955, and lovingly stayed by his side until his death on their 60th wedding anniversary in 2015. Together they raised six children who, in turn, filled their lives with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. As Mum and Dad and Mimmy and Papa to a large Irish clan, Retsy and Frank created a lasting legacy filled with endearing memories.

Always a lover of the ocean, Retsy spent many fun days in Chatham on Cape Cod as a child and later hosted numerous outings on the beaches of Sandy Neck with her family, where she could always be counted on to cook delicious homemade feasts for all and to enliven every gathering with her spirit of fun. Enormously generous and outgoing, she created and hosted hundreds of such feasts throughout her life for family and friends, cooking traditional Sunday dinners for many years and never failing to make holiday gatherings a supreme treat.

Above all, Retsy was a woman of great faith with a particular love for the Blessed Mother, as well as a devoted and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her loving kindness, her playfulness, her generosity, and her unfailing courage and enormous strength of character will be missed by all who knew her.

Safe home, Retsy-Mum-Mimmy, be at peace forever with your “blue-eyed boy.”

Retsy is survived by her children, Lorie Coyle Godfrey (Walter) of Westminster, Massachusetts; Coreen Chenelle (David) of Townsend, Massachusetts; Michael Francis Coyle of Sugar Hill, New Hampshire; Teresa Coyle Airey (Ron) of Ashby, Massachusetts; Mary Bridget Coyle (Kevin O’Brien) of Sierra Vista, Arizona; our longtime family friend, Mary Ann McCabe (Al Johnson) of Falls Church, Virginia; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, with three more on the way.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Francis Michael Coyle, to whom she was married for 60 years; her parents; her brothers, George, Edward, and Joseph Paige; her daughter, Elizabeth Coyle Jankoski; and her grandson, Ryan Chenelle.

A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 12, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Shirley, Massachusetts, beginning at 11:00 a.m. There will be no calling hours.
