Conoley was well respected in his career as the chorusmaster/conductor of The Houston Grand Opera for two decades. In addition, he was also the assistant chorusmaster for the New York City Opera and numerous other projects. Conoley immersed himself in music since age 4, when he began piano lessons, and continued until his death.
He was also my dad. What I remember the most about my dad is his love of music, his habit of fishing to relax, his pet Pirahna named "Earline", his boa constrictors that lived in his chimney (and escaped in the neighborhood a few times), his irritation at my insistance at playing rock music, his look of pride whenever he took me to the Opera, and our morning coffee together.
He married three times (that I know of) but died alone.
He has 1 daughter and 3 sons, mother-Margaret Stevenson Ballard, father-Conoley E. Ballard Sr., twin sisters-Pat and Pam.
