While visiting her uncle in North Dakota, she met her future husband, Truman Landa. The couple married in November of 1947 and made their home on the family ranch. After the birth of her last child, she became an American Citizen. In 1966, they made their home in Wenatchee and she worked as a cook for the Wenatchee School District until retiring. Following the death of her husband Truman in 1987, Ruth married Les Vail and the couple made their home in Wenatchee. In 1991, following the death of Les, she made her home in Prosser.
Ruth was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, painting, bingo and dancing.
Ruth is survived by her son, Prentice Landa (Rhonda) of Prosser; her daughters, Colleen Grall (Bill) of Pasco, Janice Erdman (Marvin) of Moses Lake and Darlene Moore (Eddie) of Connell; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her infant son, Arland Jerome Landa in 1949; brothers, Oscar, Elmer, Alfred and Oliver Camphaug; sisters, Agnes Kline and Opal Dakken; and grandsons, Christopher and Michael Erdman.
