There were two obituaries for my maternal grandpa (Hutchinson & Dodge City papers – both June 5, 1967) so here I will kind of merge the two:

Update: Memorial Day 2012:
===========================

I wanted to work on grandpa's genealogy, and I have uncovered some info. What I knew up to now was that his parents were John Coltran Sr. and Mattie E. (Stainbrook) Coltran. Mattie remarried a John A Gade, but no children were born of that marriage that I know of.

Mattie and grandpa's brothers all died in California, but I do not have their grave locations. I have photos of Mattie's casket, so she should be buried somewhere there. Here is what I know of them:

Mattie's marriage record to John Coltran on 22-Feb-1905

Grandpa's brothers dates are:

John Coltran Jr:
b. 08 Mar 1910 in Nebraska, USA
d. November 1968 in California USA

Earl Nolan Coltran:
b. 08 May 1912 in Nebraska, USA
d. 27 Jan 1979 in Riverside, California, USA

Grandpa's mother's info is:

Mattie E (Stainbrook) Coltran
b. 09-Sep-1885 Jeff Co, Neb, USA
d. 01-Nov-1961 Sacramento, Ca, USA

Mattie's parents (grandpa's maternal grandparents) are:

William Bates Stainbrook
Frances Emma (Burrill) Stainbrook

Mattie's paternal grandparents are:
George Frederick Stainbrook
Agnes Belle (Huling) Stainbrook

Grandpa's Father's info is:
John Coltran Sr. (b. Jul 1882 Indiana; d. ?)

John Coltran Sr's parents were:
Zebedee Coltran &
Carolina "Carrie" M. Brown

Zebedee Coltran's household in the 1900 federal census where they lived in Waco Village, Waco Township, York County, Nebraska

It is obvious to me that Grandpa's middle name was from his paternal uncle Forrest Coltran who appears in that 1900 census. Note, that I do not know Zebedee's parents. However, more has come to light as to the parents of "Carrie". Her parents were Madison Brown & Tabitha J. (Hendricks) Brown. I have a strong suspicion that "Carrie" is buried perhaps in the Waco Cemetery as that is where her mother is buried under the name "T J Brown":

Tabitha J. Hendricks Brown

Also note that though I have not found grandpa's grandparents, I did find all their children's graves except for the daughter whose name could have been Myrtle. Here is the findagrave virtual cemetery I made for them:

Offspring of Zebedee & Carolina "Carrie" M. Brown Coltran/Coltrain

Note that except for the oldest son, Claude, all spelled their last name as Coltran. Claude spelled his name Coltrain.

I am pretty sure I have found grandpa's dad's memorial:
John Coltran. This grave is in Butte, Boyd County, Nebraska. A 1935 South Dakota census had a John Coltran living in Fairfax, Gregory County, South Dakota which is only 9 miles away. That John Coltran was born 1882 in Indiana, and both parents born in North Carolina. That matches the info on my grandpa's dad. I have written the memorial owner to see if that individual has more info. When I contacted that contributor before they didn't know much because their connection was with the wife buried there.
