Ilene Renee Fortner, nee Chambers of Pawnee, Illinois, passed away Wednesday June 7, 2017 in Naperville, Illinois after a brief battle with cancer.

Ilene was born November 2, 1982 in Macomb, Illinois to James and Janet Chambers. She attended Macomb public schools, where she was a member of the Macomb High School (MHS) marching band. Upon graduation from MHS in 2001, she attended Southern Illinois University-Carbondale where she studied nursing and participated in the rugby team, and was an active member of the Vineyard church in Carbondale. Ilene later transferred to University Missouri St. Louis where she completed her degree in Nursing in 2006 while helping with a Vineyard church plant in the area.

Ilene spent the next several years working as a nurse in St. Louis and briefly in Miami. She returned to St. Louis in 2008 to attend St. Louis University (SLU), where she completed her Master's Degree in Athletic Training in 2010. During her time at SLU, she met her husband, Bryce Fortner whom she married October 15, 2011.

Bryce and Ilene settled in Pawnee, Illinois where they have lived since 2011. She worked for Prairie Cardiovascular Consultants at HSHS St. John's Hospital of Springfield, Illinois beginning in June 2010, where she was employed as a registered nurse in the offices of Dr. Kriegh P. Moulton and Dr. Jeffrey A. Goldstein before being promoted to Nurse Manager of Specialty Services in 2016. While working at Prairie, she created and implemented a nurse education program along with a healthy living group for fellow nurses.

Ilene's pride and joy was her daughter, Madison Grace who was born January 7, 2015. Ilene was an amazing mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by husband; daughter, Madison Fortner; mother, Janet Chambers; sisters, Amy and Erin Chambers and father and mother-in-law Melvin and Tami Fortner.

She was preceded in death by father, James Chambers; maternal grandparents, Robert and Fern Tallcott and paternal grandparents, Richard Chambers and Howard and Ruth Rhodes.
