The following obituary appeared in the "Altoona Mirror" (Altoona, PA) on Friday, January 31, 2020:

William A. Barger, 89, Altoona, died Wednesday at his home.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Wesley G. and Zura Ella (Taylor) Barger. On Aug. 27, 1949, Bill married Patricia Mae [sic] Withers and she preceded him in death on July 8, 2016.

Surviving are his son, Robert and wife, Rose, of Johnstown; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons: William Jr. and David; and by two brothers: Dewayne [sic] and Wilbur.

He was a 1948 graduate of Altoona High School and was employed by The Pennsylvania Railroad and retired in 1992 from Conrail, as an electrician.

Bill enjoyed genealogy, gardening and railroad history.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park. Entombment will take place in Alto-Reste Park.

Bill took the afternoon train to paradise.
