Francis, my maternal grandfather, was the son of Pell Claugh Arthur* (1856-1917) and Mary Ryan* (1862-1929). Pell brought the family back to Street Road, Ticonderoga, NY about 1895.

Francis had eight brothers and three sisters. William (1885-1962), Margaret (1886-1930), Warren (1887-1974), James* (1889-1973), Richard (1890-1971), Matthew (1892-1970), Daniel (1895-1960), Beatrice (1897-1936), Amelia Louise (1899-1920), Edward* (1904-1982), Clarence Paul (1905-1981).

Margaret and Louise had no children, but between the ramaining ten they gave Pell and Mary 41 grandchildren.

Francis married Abigail Veronica McGillicuddy* (1885-1960) on Dec. 29, 1912. They lived first in Brooklyn where their three children were born. Francis (1913-1981), my mother Margaret* (1916-1962) and William (1918-1965). Shortly after that they moved to Secaucus, NJ where they spent the rest of their lives. Francis worked as a chauffer and after retiring as a laundry worker.

Francis, after visiting Abby in a nursing home where she was critically ill, came home and fell asleep in his chair with a lit pipe. He burned to death on May 30, 1960. His wife Abby died 12 hours later not knowing of her husband's death. Grandpa often said he wanted to go first so he could greet Grandma when she came to heave.
