Nancy C. THOMAS

Nancy Caroline Thomas passed away in Seattle on February 18, 2003. She was born in Tacoma on July 9, 1928, the daughter of George Harrie and Catherine Heath Thomas. She attended Annie Wright Seminary and Stadium High School. She received a degree in journalism from the University of Washington. Nancy will be remembered by her family and friends for her dedication to the protection of natural resources. She wrote a column "Making Waves" for Pacific Search magazine. She was a past president of the Washington Environmental Council, vice-president of Tahoma Audubon Society and she served on state Advisory Committees on Drinking Water and Forest Practices. Nancy worked for passage of the Shoreline Management Act and participated in the development of Shoreline Master Programs for the City of Tacoma and Pierce County. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Thomas Kubale. She is survived by her brother, Mortimer Heath Thomas, his wife Joan and their daughter Elizabeth Andre (widow of Pat Andre). Nieces, Caroline Kubale Smith (Kevin), Catherine Kubale Gelband (Scott) and Anne Kubale Walker (Scott) are the children of Mary and Bernard Kubale. Great nieces and nephews are Philip, David and James Smith, Cate and Sam Gelband and Emily, George, Thomas and Lillian Walker. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, March 23rd, at 2:00 p.m. at the Tacoma Mountaineers, 2302 N. 30th, Tacoma. This world is a better place because of you, Nancy. Hoffner Fisher & Harvey
