Mr. Chernesky retired as a furnace operator from J&L Steel. He was a member of VFW Menge Post 6756, Center Line.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a member of the 13th Field Artillery Battalion who participated in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe battles and campaigns. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign medal and five Bronze Stars.
Mr. Chernesky is survived by his children, Bonnie Feyers, Michael Chernesky and Lisa (Rodney) Shepan; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters. He was predeceased by his wife, Hazel, in August 2006.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ford Funeral Home, 26560 Van Dyke, Center Line, with the Rev. William Lawrence officiating. Burial will be in Cadillac Memorial Gardens East, Clinton Township.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today, 2-4 p.m. and 5-9 p.m. Friday and 10:30-11 a.m. Saturday.
