Jamie Eileen Crump Davis arrived January 26, 1945 in Goose Creek, Texas, to James Thomas and Lillie Griffin Crump. She met her maker June 8, in Bellaire, TX, while whistling Dixie.
Graduate of John Marshall High School in San Antonio, TX, class of 1963. BS in Education from Southwest Texas State University in 1967. Member of the Texas Strutters Drill Team, performing for Lyndon B. Johnson's Inaugural parade. Alpha Delta Pi alumni.
After college it only took Jamie two years of working for Joske's of Texas in San Antonio in the Executive Training Program, to realize Houston was the place to live. Moving in 1969, Jamie went to work for IBM, where she was an Executive Assistant. Retiring on March 31, 2007, Jamie worked for IBM for 37 years, 7 months and 6 days…. But who's counting? While there she received 10 Prestigious IBM Means Service Awards as well as numerous Branch, Regional and General Manager Awards. Traveling and Genealogy were her passions. She was particularly fond of England and Tuscany.
Marrying Neil Davis in 1972, the two were very active in the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. A divorce in 1997 didn't stop Jamie from serving as the Chairman of the Photography Committee and the Committeemen's BBQ Committee. As a lifetime Committee Member, Jamie enjoyed each night of the rodeo until her health ravaged her body. Her special seat sits empty now.
Jamie was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Loving her big hats and being an avid convention attendee, Jamie rose to the rank of Texas Division President, 2010-12 and Second Vice President General, 2012-14 in the United Daughters of the Confederacy. The South was her soul. Her greatest accomplishment was the design, implementation and dedication of the 15' monument commemorating the 150th anniversary of the War Between the States, located at the Texas Civil War Museum in Fort Worth. She was the proud descendant of 44 brave Confederate soldiers, and the recipient of the Winnie Davis Medal and the Jefferson Davis Gold Historical Medal.
Jamie was preceded in death by her parents Col. James Thomas and Lillie Griffin Crump; her paternal grandparents Albert Garlen and Alice Chitty Crump; and her maternal grandparents Millard and Agnes Wilburn Griffin.
Jamie is survived by her only sibling, Debbie Crump Brady, her nephew, James Thomas Crump, who was the light of her life, his dog Junior, and her first cousin Ginger Carol Crump of Canyon, TX. Her God son, Clay McGraw Lindberg also survives her, as well as a multitude of friends. The family wishes to thank her caregivers April, Ella and Nancy, and her long time housekeeper Beverly. She will be remembered for her dry wit, loyalty, compassion, her love of Texas and the South, and her staunch Republican leanings.
A 20 year loyal and active member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Jamie saw the church in her rear view mirror for the last time when told her Memorial Service wishes were not appropriate. So we will all meet and celebrate at Earthman Funeral Home, 4525 Bissonnet, Bellaire, TX, singing Dixie and Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain! Services will be Saturday July 1st at 2:00pm, to be officiated by her beloved former Pastor, Allen Bauer.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated for the Texas Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy Scholarship Fund.
