PLAINVIEW -- The Mass of Christian burial for Cecilia K. Abts will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Lewiston, with the Rev. Marreddy Pothireddy officiating. Interment will be in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery, Lewiston.
Mrs. Abts, 95, formerly of Winona, died Sunday (Feb. 18, 2007) at Fifth Street Elder Care in Plainview.
Cecilia Katherine Hames was born Jan. 17, 1912, in Lewiston. On Nov. 30, 1933, she married Ervan A. Abts at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He died Jan. 28, 1970. She worked in the laundry room of Winona General Hospital, helped her husband in his real estate business and did private duty nursing. She enjoyed traveling with Winona County Homemakers and camping, and she volunteered for quilting and the funeral lunch committee of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Winona. She was a 60-year member of Catholic Daughters of America.
Survivors include four daughters, Patricia (Raymond) Swanson of Rollingstone, Cecilia Katherine (John) Diepenbrock of Rochester, Rose (Terry) Currie of Wabasha and Marge (Bob) Swanson of Elgin; two sons, Jerry (Judy) of Outing, Minn., and Francis J. "Frankie" (Mary Ann) of St. Paul; 18 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home in Winona, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church. There will be a Rosary by the Catholic Daughters, Winona and Plainview Chapters, at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
