ROCHESTER -- The funeral Mass for William "Ted" Cavanaugh will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Plainview, with the Rev. John Ozbun officiating. Burial will be in St. Joachim's Cemetery.

Mr. Cavanaugh, 96, a former longtime Plainview resident, died Tuesday (Feb. 20, 2007) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester. He had resided at Charter House in Rochester since 1990.

Born Sept. 26, 1910, in Maple Grove, Wis., he graduated from high school in Maple Grove and attended Normal Teacher's College. During his early years, he taught in the Manitowoc, Wis., area. In 1933 he began working summers at Lakeside Foods. He later became manager at the Lakeside plant in Sheboygan, Wis., and then the plant in Plainview. He retired in 1976 and moved to Rochester in 1990. On June 23, 1931, he married Veronica Bartz in Milwaukee. She preceded him in death in November 1985. He married Dorothy Grell in December 1986; she died in 1998. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and playing cards. In his retirement he liked to play golf.

Survivors include nine daughters, Patricia Harlan and Faith Lyons, both of Rochester, Mary Coleman of Stillwater, Minn., Kathleen (Jon) Green of Plainview, Joy (Jerry) Lague of Wayzata, Minn., Karen Cavanaugh of Minneapolis, Sandra (John) Muc of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Judy Cavanaugh of Juneau, Alaska, and Dawn (Craig) Martineau of Red Wing; two sons, Dr. Gerald (Patt) of Wayzata and Dan (LaVonne) of Cameron, Wis.; 37 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael; a daughter, Peggy; six sisters; and five brothers.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview, and an hour before the service Tuesday at the church. There will be a Prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials are preferred to the Michael Cavanaugh Scholarship Fund, or to breast cancer research.
