Edmund L. Barnes, 73, a retired welder and longtime Salinas resident, died Friday at the Skyline Convalescent Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Barnes was born in Santa Clara on Feb. 12, 1913. He lived in Salinas for 68 years, 18 of which were spent as a welder for the Cochran Equipment Co. until he retired. He is survived by two brothers, former Salinas Mayor Jack Barnes and Bernard Barnes, also of Salinas. Graveside services will be held at the Garden of Memories today at 11 a.m. The Struve & Laporte Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
