Second child of Minot and Maria (Bridge) who outlived his parents and all four of his siblings. On January 16, 1853 Frederick married Sarah Maria Emery (1833-1879) in Hingham, Massachusetts. Their marriage was performed by Ralph Waldo Emerson, Ralph's first such ceremony. They had their first child in December of that same year.

Frederick is noted for being the only Concord man to be drafted into the Civil War. The unit in which he served was formed in 1863. Frederick was very active in the Concord Farmer's Club and started Concord Nurseries on the family farm after his father's death. This business was continued by Frederick's son Henry until 1915.

The plot on Ridge Path is not far from the graves of the Alcotts, Emerson, Thoreau and Hawthorne. Buried in the family plot are Frederick and is wife, his father Minot and mother Maria, his sister Caroline, and brother Theodore, whose body was moved from its grave on their farm. Another brother, John Bridge Pratt, is buried separately, but nearby, with his wife Anna. The plot with Frederick and his family is presently marked only with Frederick's Civil War headstone. (UPDATE: since creation of this memorial, a large flat stone has been added to memorialize the other family members buried in this plot.)

As an aside, Frederick's younger brother (3rd born sibling) John married Anna Bronson Alcott, one of Louisa May Alcott's sisters.
