DOCTOR BOYDEN DIES IN OMAHA

In the death of Dr. Henry D. Boyden, which occurred yesterday at 1:30 at Clarkson Memorial hospital in Omaha, Grand Island loses one of its best known physicians and highly esteemed residents. Dr. Boyden had been ailing for over a year, but his condition was not at all serious until the last few months, when he was compelled to give up his practice on account of failing health. At that time it was the intention of the doctor to leave for California, but just as the family was to depart he took a turn for the worse, and grew gradually weaker. Bright's disease is given as the cause of death. The remains arrived in this city this afternoon at 4:50 over the Union Pacific accompanied by members of the family and friends. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock from St. Stephen's Episcopal church. It is requested that there be no floral offerings.

Dr. Henry D. Boyden was born in Morrisville, Madison county, New York, December 26, 1852. When sixteen years of age he entered the drug business at Kenosha, Wis., under Fred Robinson, and there learned the business and principles which laid the foundation of his successful career. Four years later he went to Chicago and after a short stay returned to Kenosha where he remained until 1879 when he moved to Morris, Ill. There he met his estimable wife, the daughter of William McFarland, a prominent citizen at that time, and was united in marriage May 1, 1879. On May 10, that year, the couple came west and located in Grand Island. Mr. Boyden took the position of manager of I. W. Bean's pharmacy, and two years later engaged in business for himself and was very successful. He was a charter member of the Nebraska Pharmaceutical Association and was elected president of that organization in the year 1885, at the time the pharmacy laws were framed. He was also a member of he board of examiners. It was twenty years ago that Dr. Boyden was elected mayor of Grand Island and while filling this office he continued in the drug business. He was a member of the library board and held other public offices. Shortly after his term expired he retired from the drug business and went to Pennsylvania and studied medicine and surgery, returning to practice here in the year 1895. Ever since that time until the last few months he was very active and successful in his chosen work. Dr. Boyden was quite prominent in lodge circles also. He was high in Masonry, a member of the Odd Fellows and Encampment, the A. O. U. W., Modern Woodmen and the Elks. An ever faithful and loving wife and daughter, besides other relatives, are left to mourn the loss of this well known and esteemed citizen.
