Bessie Ellen Carson passed away Monday, June 19, 2017. She was born on April 2, 1913, in Bryce, Arizona, the daughter of John Harvey Foster and Betsey Carter.
As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life, she served in many positions in the Church, including as a missionary in the Atlanta Georgia Temple. She was married December 28, 1930, to Oscar Gilliland in New Mexico. In Graham County, Arizona, they had a son, Robert, and a daughter, Norma, born to them. In 1935, they moved to Los Angeles, California, where their last son, Steve, was born. In 1965, Bessie and Oscar were divorced. Bessie married Fay Carson in 1968 and they moved to Stevensville, Montana, in 1970. Fay died in 2006. Needing help in her elderly years, she moved to Orem, Utah, to be near her son, Robert. She passed away at his home at the age of 104.
She is survived by Robert and his wife, Patricia Jenson; Steve and his wife, Judy Morrison; 17 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and 36 great-great grandchildren.
Her granddaughters remember the manicures she gave them. Her family remembers her vigorously cheering favorite sports teams and her love for chocolate milk shakes. Her family will miss her sense of humor, her kind caring touch, and her righteous example.
