Frank A. Blanden, 80, of 20 Elm Ave., Homer, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center.
Born October 28, 1926 in Homer, he was the son of the late Walter and Alice Witherby Blanden. Frank was a graduate of Homer Central School where he was the senior class president. Mr. Blanden was a proud veteran of both World War II and Korea, serving in the U.S. Navy. Frank was a lifelong member of the Homer Congregational Church, he was also a life member of the Homer Fire Department, a member, for more than 50 years, of the Masons, a member of the Carrington-Fuller Post 800; American Legion of Groton and a member for many years of the fraternal order of Elks at various lodges, including the Homer Lodge #2506. Frank enjoyed golfing and at one time was the county champion in tennis. He retired from Smith Corona after more than 25 years of service, where he was a tool and die maker. He had been previously employed at Brockway Motors. He is survived by his wife of 57 years; Dorcas M. Messenger Blanden; his three children, Karo (Peter) Billard of Remsen, NY; Cynthia J. Brong of Ithaca and Walter F. (Marie) Blanden of Truxton. Also surviving is a brother, Arthur Blanden of Windham, NY; two sisters, Marge Alexander of Bordino and Lois (Ken) Hall of Baldwinsville; five grandchildren, Mikale (Tamara) Billard, Jessica Billard, Liva Brong, Shawn (Christina) Blanden and Adam and Zachary Blanden; four great grandchildren, Carmina Fisher, Alecia Robbins, Samantha Robbins and Paityn Ann Billard as well as several nieces, nephews and special friends. He was predeceased by a sister, Jeanette Orr and other loving family members. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Homer Congregational Church, 29 S. Main, Homer, with the Rev. James Ziobro officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer. The family will receive friends at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 N. Main St., Homer, on Friday from 10 a.m. until noon. Memorial contributions in Mr. Blanden's memory may be directed to the Homer Fire Dept. Rescue, P.O.
