Andy was born on April 15, 1928 in Redding, California, the youngest of four children, to Italian immigrant parents. His family moved to San Francisco when he was six, where he grew up, attended San Francisco State College, participated in student debating teams, took wedding photos with his Speed-Graphic camera to earn extra money, and graduated with a secondary school teaching credential.

In 1953, while substitute teaching and awaiting direct commission as an army officer, Andy met Jackie Fox at Mills College in Oakland, California--on her 20th birthday. Six weeks later, they were engaged. They would not marry for more than two years, however, as Andy went off to army training in Texas, and then to Japan to serve as a second, then first lieutenant in the Korean War until May, 1955.

Jackie graduated from Mills in June of that year, and they were married the following month on July 23rd in Portland, Oregon, where Jackie had grown up. By that September, Andy was teaching 8th and 9th grade biology at Bancroft Junior High School in San Leandro, California, where he continued for 33 years, immensely well-liked and admired by his students and colleagues alike.

Photography was a life-long hobby. He taught the subject, and built dark rooms in every house he lived in. His greatest passion was flying. He was a private pilot for over 40 years. Game-bird hunting and fishing were favorite pastimes as well, and he loved to cook. He liked to camp, anywhere there were fish to catch. He went out of his way to be of service to everyone around him, and was an active member of Saint James Catholic Church in Georgetown.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jackie, three loving sons: Mark (Shannon), Matthew, and John (Kathy), and granddaughter, Chloe (9). Funeral Mass for Andrew Ferrari will be held Saturday, December 10, at 10:30AM at St. James Catholic Church, 2831 Harkness St. Georgetown, CA. 95634.
