Alice was the daughter of John & Hannah [Brunsden] Buckingham. She was one of 11 children. Her birth date is unknown.

Based on when her parents were married [1698] and when Alice became a member of the Concord Quaker church [1739] it is her birth date is estimated to be about 1718.

There are many records 1739-1755 showing Alice's name, (Quaker 1739-1786), court & property records (Feb 1743). These records show her living first in Chester County, PA, then in Wilmington, Delaware and lastly in Philadelphia.

Quaker records of October 1755 show her intentions to marry Edward Jones.

The couple had one known child. A Buckingham bible shows: "Sarah Jones daughter of Edward and Alice Jones was born the 13th day of March Snno Domini 1759 about 35 minutes pas 4 o'clock in the morning." Quaker records further shows that on Feb 24, 1786 Sarah was dismissed for marrying her first cousin, (John Buckingham) with the assistance of a hireling priest. Nothing further has been found on Sarah or John.

There is no concrete information for Alice's death. There is a Philadelphia MM entry for a burial of an Alice Jones age abt 60 on 12/26/1783. Is this our Alice? The "abt" leaves the possibility. Given that we are unsure of her birth date and that some ladies may not always be truthful about their age this very well could be Edward's Alice.

Edward died (age 79) and was buried in the Philadelphia Friends burial ground on 30 Sep 1787. Nothing is known about his family.

This memorial for Alice is posted to the Arch St Friends Burial ground because Alice was a member of this church and the fact that her husband Edward was buried here.
