Helene B. Sherman was born June 29, 1937 in Scranton, PA to Florence Hinerfeld and Samuel Bransdorf. The family moved to Wilkes-Barre when Helene was three years old where she graduated from Meyers High School and then she attended Wyoming Seminary Business School in Kingston, PA. Her parents moved to Syracuse, NY and she worked for Nationwide Insurance for a short time and then as a registrar in the office of the Boy Scouts of America.

She met the love of her life, William S. "Billy" Sherman, after being fixed up by Billy's brother, Sheldon. Billy had just been discharged from the army and shortly thereafter they were married. Helene and Billy were married for 56 years before he died July 30, 2014. Together they had two wonderful children, daughter, Linda (Daniel) Steinberg and Jeffrey (Alison) Sherman. Linda and Jeffrey and their spouses brought to them six grandchildren and one great-grandchild who were the lights of their lives. Samuel (fiancée Melissa Hatfield) Steinberg, Benjamin Steinberg, Stacy Steinberg, Sarah Sherman (great-grandson, Odin), Joshua Sherman and Jamie Sherman brought Helene and Billy so much joy throughout the years. Helene and Billy almost never missed a sporting or other special event in their grandchildren's lives.

Helene was an avid reader and belonged to a wonderful book club as well as being a longtime member of Congregation B'nai Israel and the B'nai Israel Sisterhood. She loved playing Mah Jongg and going to her weekly lunch and dinner group with very close friends who she enjoyed being with her entire life.

Helene will be dearly missed by her friends and family. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 12th at 11:00 a.m. at Temple B'nai Israel and interment will take place immediately following at Beth Shalom Cemetery in Oregon, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Congregation B'nai Israel or to the Friendship Circle at Chabad of Toledo.
