US Congressman. Admitted to the bar in 1903, he opened a law firm in Devils Lake, North Dakota and was superintendent of schools for Ramsey County, 1905 to 1907. In 1907 and 1908, he was chief clerk of the State House of Representatives, prosecuting attorney of Adams County and North Dakota Secretary of State, 1911 to 1913. He was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-third, Sixty-fourth, and Sixty-fifth Congresses, serving 1913 to 1919. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he engaged in farming, livestock, banking, and the practice of law. In 1927 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention and a delegate to Republican State conventions, 1920 to 1940.
