Sol Irwon Mock, "Lucky", passed to heavenly rest on June 29, 2017, after a long illness. He was born in Millen GA on July 7, 1937 to Sol and Eva Mock. He was a retired master carpenter and a lifelong member of Carpenter and Millwrights Local #225. He worked on some of Atlanta's largest projects, including the MARTA Rail Line and Lockheed-Martin, before leaving Atlanta traffic behind in 1989. He began his own remodeling business at that time. A stroke in 1995, left his right hand paralyzed and forced him into early retirement. He met his wife, Jean, in 1962 and they married on March 17, 1963. They live in Jonesboro until 1970, when then moved to Oxford. They lived in the home that they built together until death separated them when Jean passed in March, just six days short of their 54 year anniversary. Together they had five children.

Although Sol was raised in the Baptist Church, he did not accept Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in 2015 while in the hospital. He enjoyed many things in his life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman before his health began to decline. He was a founding member of the Piedmont C.B. club, holding the offices of president, vice president and treasurer. He was also a former member and officer of the Rock Creek Coonhunters Association. He was a permanent Master of Hounds, judging U.K.C. sanctioned hunts all over Georgia. Over the years, he raised rabbits, quails, and lots of hunting dogs. The most vivid memory that his children will recall in the coming years will be of him singing to them as he played his beloved 1951 Martin guitar.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sol and Eva Mock, his loving wife, Jean, his daughter, Patricia Vanderwater, and siblings, William Mock, Dorothy Bonner Elma Clakely, Wilma DeBlasio, and Erma Griner.

Left to cherish the memories are his children: Debra (James) Smith, Cindy Mock, Vivian (David) Alcantara, and Don Mock. Grandchildren: Tori Amezequita (fiance Robert Wong), Tabatha Lummus, Brittany and Nicholas Vanderwater, Jesse and Jacob Blankenship, Jacob Mock, David III and Eva Alcantara. Great grandchildren: Julian Amezquita, Jazlyn Wong, Jaxon Blankenship and Noah Vanderwater. Siblings: Hazel Dickey and Betty Lewis and a host of other family and loved ones.

The family will accept visitors on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home, from 2 until 4. Graveside services will be held at 2 o’clock, Monday, July 3, 2017 at Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington, GA.
