Olivia was a resident of Long Prairie most of her life. Her 44 year career in the telephone business began in August 1928 when she began training for an operators job, which she started on September 1. At that time the Long Prairie telephone company was privately owned and located in the Reichert Hotel Building. Olivia took a job as bookkeeper at the pickle factory, but when they closed for the season in 1929, she went back full time at the telephone company. She was chief operator from 1942-1972. In 1941, she received an engagement ring from her husband, who once said "..it may be recorded as the longest courtship in history, with an acquaintance of almost 35 years." She married Earl Abrahamson June 3, 1967 in Long Prairie. The couple enjoyed dancing, redocorating and traveling. Olivia was a member of St. Mary's parish, Catholic Women, and National Order of Foresters. (above from Long Prairie Leader)
