While the burns were not considered serious at first, an (sic) [on] account of her age and complications which developed, her condition became serious and she failed steadily during the past week. Mrs Johnson had resided with Miss Lena Jackson at Spring Creek since the death of her husband in 1913 (sic) [1914], and was well known in that community. Early in the afternoon of Thursday, February 1, Mrs Johnson went to the back yard, as she had many, many times before, to burn papers and other rubbish. There was a wind blowing and the flames ignited the skirt worn by Mrs Johnson, with that result that she was quickly enveloped with fire. Her screams attracted neighbors and the fire was soon extinguished but not until she was painfully burned. She was taken to the Corry hospital as soon as possible. Mrs Johnson was born April 16, 1862, near Columbus, Warren county, and spen her entire life in that vicinity. She was a member of the Spring Creek Congregational church and for many years taught a class of young men in the Sunday school. Mrs Johnson leaves a son, Donald R Johnson of Chandlers Valley, several grandchildren and nieces and nephews. The body was prepared at the Bracken-Keating funeral home in Corry and taken to the home at Spring Creek yesterday. Services will be conducted from the Spring Creek church Tuesday at 2 pm."
