Truman was born May 1, 1925 in Lincoln, MO to A. C. and Della (Keuper) Eken. He graduated Lincoln High School in 1943. At the age of 19, he enlisted in the US Army and was involved in the liberation of the Philippines, Okinawa and Korea. Truman achieved the rank of Warrant Officer within the Army’s XXIV Division Counter Intelligence Corps (CIC) and was honorably discharged in 1947. Truman was proud to be recognized as a member of “America’s Greatest Generation”. Truman returned to his Lincoln rural roots where he performed his trade as a grain farmer and construction contractor, leaving his mark on numerous building projects throughout Lincoln, Benton County and beyond. He served as the Lincoln Mayor for 12 years between 1960 and 1982.
Truman was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln and remains today as a registered member of the Wesley Methodist Church, Sedalia, MO.
Survivors include his sons: Ronald C. (Carolyn) Eken of Ten Mile, TN and Colonel James K. (USAF-Ret) (Dana) Eken, Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren: Michelle (Greg) Baker, Bozeman, MT; Dr. Stephanie (Shannon) Eken-Sander, Nashville, TN; James Zachary (Rachel) Eken, Colorado Springs, CO; Eric (Carisa) Smith, Colorado Springs, CO; and Kelly (Ryan) Harnish, Richland, WA; Great Grandchildren: Cole Baker, Bozeman, MT, Evan Smith, Colorado Springs, CO; Emery Harnish, Richland, WA; and Dominique, Ramon and Vanessa Martinez, all of Colorado Springs, CO.
Truman was preceded in death by his parents, two wives (Alice, married for 56 years and Dorothy, married for 12 years) and one sister, Dorothy Anton.
