"Sylva Jenette (Gelvin) Dickson, 99, Oregon, Missouri, passed from this life on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at the Oregon, Missouri Nursing Home.

Sylva was born January 28, 1910, in Mound City, Missouri to William and Stella Gelvin. Sylva worked in private duty housekeeping and was of the Christian faith. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and fishing, which she excelled at. Sylva was a great mother and took very good care of her family.

Sylva was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Earl Baker, Charles Ballinger, and Clarence Dickson; a son, Bill Baker; daughter, Ester Darlene Baker, brothers, Charles and Jim Gelvin; sisters, Eva Smith and Goldie Lent; and a granddaughter, Sheila Young.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Evelyn Baker, Oregon, MO; daughters, Velma Mills and husband, J.R., Savannah, and Leona Young, Mound City; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and two nieces.

A graveside celebration of life and interment was held on Friday, October 30, 2009, at Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City.
