Obituary for Connie Jean Barnes
Connie Jean (Allen) Barnes, age 71, of Lovilia,
passed away on Monday, July 3, 2017 at the Pella Comfort
House.
She was born to Wayne and Virginia (Ammons) Allen
on September 26th 1945. She grew up in Albia the eldest of four children surrounded by a family with a fondness for nature and all its spoils: hunting, fishing, horses, camping and boating. Connie's love of music though, was her own. In her younger days, many that knew her called her "cricket" because she was always singing whatever song was on her heart. Sometimes that song would get her into trouble with her Dad at the dinner table. "Only fools and gypsies sing at the dinner table" her father would say. Connie was no fool, but she always questioned if maybe she was part gypsy. In her high school years, her vocal talents earned her a 1 at the state vocal contest. Connie attended Albia Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1963 and later attending Centerville Community College.
Connie married Daniel Creagan and to this union a
daughter, Julie Lynn was born. They later divorced. She
then married William Barnes on September 13, 1969. Bill
had a daughter Melissa from a previous marriage, and Bill and
Connie added to their family three daughters of their own: Dana, Amy, and Ginny. Joining together five daughters gave her great pride; though
sometimes their giggling could drive her up the wall.
Connie began her working career as a Car Hop for
Mick’s Drive In, and later Dick’s Drive In. She was a
social worker and case manager for DHS in Wapello and Monroe
Counties and a secretary for Contel and G.T.E
Telephone. Connie finished her career as a secretary with Monroe County Secondary Roads, when she retired in 2008. Even as her memory failed; she
always referred to the secondary road crew as “my guys”.
Connie and Bill raised their family and made their
home in Lovilia for 47 years. She was active in
her church where she played piano for almost forty years, helped with music programs for vacation bible school and in her later years was a youth group leader. She enjoyed crafts and made many gifts for family and friends as well as church bazaars. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, flower gardening and throughout her life she was an avid bowler.

mother-in-law, Norma Barnes. She was preceded in death by
her parents, Wayne and Virginia Allen, two brothers, Gary
and Terry, father-in-law, William Barnes Jr., sister-in-law,
Judy Geno, and brother-in-laws, Jerry Geno and Pete
Pottorff.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the
Lovilia United Methodist Church with Rev. Marvin Lindley and
Rev. Raymond Doser officiating. Connie’s
body will be cremated following services per her
wishes. A luncheon will be served at the Lovilia Community
Building. Visitation will be held at sinnott Funeral Home in Albia on Friday, July 7, 2017, opening to the public at 1:00 p.m. Family will be present from 6-8 p.m.
