RICHARD J. KIEFFER
(1917 - 2017)

Richard J. Kieffer, age 100, entered eternal life on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Fieldcrest Manor in Manitowoc.

Richard was born on June 9, 1917 in New London. He was the son of the late John and Lilah Reindl Keiffer. Richard was a graduate of Lincoln High School and continued his education at the Manitowoc Vocational School. During the Great Depression he worked in the "farm field" at Silver Lake Convent. He then became employed at the St. Nazianz Salvatorian Seminary in their bookkeeping department. While working there he met his wife to be, Charlotte Wolf from Reedsville. Later he became employed with Eastman Manufacturing Company on 11th Street and worked there until being inducted in to the United States Army on August 27, 1942. On February 20, 1943, while still in the military, he married Charlotte Wolf at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Richard was honorably discharge at the rank of Corporal on November 6, 1944. He then furthered his education at the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee where he studied Commercial Art. Richard returned to Manitowoc and was employed with Rahr's Appliance and Furniture on Franklin Street repairing small appliances. He later returned to Eastman Manufacturing full time and worked part time at Manitowoc Electric Motors learning rewiring of electric motors. Richard also worked part time at the City of Manitowoc doing art work and painting of signs and posters. In September of 1985 he retired from Eastman Manufacturing. Over the years Richard had been a generous supporter of many charitable organizations monetarily, including the Red Cross and over 25 years contributing to the Salvation Army. He enjoyed many years of hunting, fishing and playing dartball. He played fast-pitch softball in the Manitowoc City League. He also enjoyed doing art work for people and watching the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Braves/Brewers.

He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law: Doug and Elaine Kieffer, Manitowoc; Scott Kieffer, Seattle, WA; eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren that he counts among his many blessings, one sister: Mary Trulen, Dodgeville; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Lilah Kieffer; wife: Charlotte Kieffer; son: Thomas Kieffer; three brothers: John, Reinhardt, and Paul Kieffer; and two sisters: Margaret Schleh and Bernedette Meisner.

Memorial services will be held 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Officiating will be Deacon Alan Boeldt. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel. Richard's cremated remains will be laid to rest at Knollwood Cemetery at a later date. Relatives and friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Saturday, July 22, 2017 from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11:30 a.m.
