Enlisted, December 24, 1917, in the Aviation Section, Signal Corps. He was assigned to the Balloon Division and discharged March 24, 1918 to enlist in the US Navy. He was assigned to the Naval Aviation Detachment, Mass. Inst. of Tech. He was commissioned, Ensign, September 7, 1918 and assigned to the Naval air Station, Miami, Florida. Discharged from the Navy, March 6, 1919.

Enlisted, August 5, 1921, in Troop C, 51st Machine Gun Squadron ( Squadron A ), NYNG, New York City.
November 10 - 20,1922 the National Horse Show was held at the Squadron A Armory, New York City.

He was discharged from the 51st Machine Gun Squadron in 1923.

World War 2,entered service, June 27, 1942, in the US Navy as a Lieutenant Commander. He was killed in a plane crash, October 12, 1943.

His son PVT Gouverneur Morris Carnochan was killed in action, December 26, 1944, in Luxembourg. He was a member of the 328th Infantry Regiment, 26th Division.
